October Relief Society Night

This is late because I just realized I missed adding it to the blog!  In October we had a combined night with another ward sorting through clothing to put into totes for kids who are in need.  We literally had rows of tables piled high with clothing in all sizes from babies to adults.  The ladies who ran the program were quite impressed with all the help that arrived between the two wards to sort items for them to load into bins.  I'm sure there are dozens of children that will benefit from this amazing service project.

November Relief Society Night

This month, for our Relief Society Night, Phyllis Williams spoke to us about women's health issues.  She spoke about issues that pertain to us as women, and also issues that include our families.  We learned about what kinds of things we should be doing to protect our health and to maintain the good health we have.  There was a lot of good information given, and stimulating discussion.  She literally filled the board with information that we touched on! Thank you so much for sharing your expertise Sister Williams!

Relief Society Night September

This month Karen Brock spoke to us about literacy in our homes.  She spoke about reading to our children, and reading for ourselves and the benefits of both.  She had a great presentation about setting goals, and planning out what we want to get from our reading and from our children reading. It was a fantastic presentation, thank you to Sister Brock for all her preparation!

And Terra Oporto outdid herself on the super cute treat display. Here are some pictures of it!

April Relief Society Meeting

This month's Relief Society meeting was a large service project with the First ward.  We had people sewing pillowcase dresses, making cute little matching games, and tying a quilt.  A lot of work was completed, and many lives will be blessed.

I had my camera with me that night, but was having too much fun and forgot to take any pictures!  So if you happen to have any pictures of that night, send them to me and I will post them here for everybody to see. :)

January Relief Society Night

This month's theme was Guess the Sister. Everybody brought three items that said something about them and put them in a brown paper bag. Then they were pulled out, bag by bag, so that we could guess who's bag it was. Some were easy, some were harder. But it was a lot of fun to get to know things about each other that we didn't know. I'm sure everybody who was there had a fun time and learned a lot about their sisters.

Relief Society Night- November

Last night we had a very informative evening with Officer Zimmer from the Mount Vernon Police Department. He gave us valuable information about the presence of gangs in our community and how to recognize gang activity around us.

Scary fact: Did you know there are about 200 active gang members in our community? Wow, I was floored by that statistic.

He taught us about the major groups in Mount Vernon, how to recognize them and their grafitti, and how to recognize pre-gang behavior in our children.

Many thanks to Officer Zimmer for visiting with us and giving us all this useful information!

Relief Society Night September

We had a lovely dinner with a Ten Virgins Theme. The Young Women put on a presentation dressed as the Ten Virgins and narrators told potential scenarios that would describe both the wise and the unwise among us. It was an enlightening and Spirit filled night!
